This weekend we have been up in Boise, Idaho with my wife’s family and it has been a good chance for me to step back and take a break and just reflect on my life. It’s always nice to be able to remind myself how blessed I really am.

I just wanted to share with you quickly about something that has been on my mind lately.

Times have been tough for a LOT of people out there. In fact, an email that I got from Mike Dillard back in November had a great illustration of how unemployment has spread literally like a wildfire over the last three years. I knew unemployment was bad, but this really shocked me. Take a look for yourself.

There is one positive thing that I took away from all of this though, and I really like the way that Stuart Briscoe worded it in his Easter sermon.

He said, “Not until we fully understand our human condition – that of total depravity – can we fully appreciate what God did for us through Christ’s death and resurrection.”

Oftentimes we get so caught up in what we need and want that we require a reminder about the source of all our blessings. Lots of people are bringing themselves closer to God out of necessity – my hope is that we as a nation can recognize what is happening in the economy as a simple reminder that God is in charge – and no one else (not even Mr. Obama).

So this is my Easter message to you all… that Jesus Christ is alive and well, and that He and His Father are still actively engaged in the direction of the world and all of it’s inhabitants. If we need blessings, whether they be spiritual, financial, or any other kind of blessings, we can get them by turning a listening ear and a willing heart toward the Source of all power and wisdom.

May you reflect on what is really important over the weekend and have the direction in your life that you need.
