Mastering Your Mind… and MasterMinds!

So like I said in my last post, the No Excuses Summit in Vegas last weekend was incredible. One of my favorite parts was being able to meet and network with all of the other top internet marketers that I see online every day.

As I was talking with David Wood, who recently dethroned Cedrick Harris as the top earner in the number one attraction marketing system on the planet (MLSP) we came to the subject of mastermind groups and why they are so important in helping burgeoning internet and network marketers succeed in today’s market.

You may be wondering exactly what a “Master Mind” is. According to Napoleon Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich (as well as a slew of other great books), it is defined as the “coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people for the attainment of a definite purpose”.

Here’s the bottom line. Two heads are better than one.

I don’t care if you are a freaking Einstein, you will be able to achieve more through the power of a mastermind alliance.

One of the kind or freaky things about a master mind group is that when you put your heads together, it is more like multiplication than addition. (However, when you are doing mastermind multiplication, 1X1=3. :) Keep reading to see what I mean…)

Let me begin my explanation of “Master Mind Multiplication” with another quote from Think and Grow Rich, which by the way I would highly recommend checking out from your local library if you haven’t already read it.

“No two minds ever come together without, thereby, creating a third invisible, intangible force which may be likened to a third mind.”

Are you picturing Siamese triplets right now?

Well quit it because that’s not what he meant. ;)

The best way to understand Hill’s definition is through what I like to call “Master Mind Multiplication”…

Now this explanation doesn’t really work if you are just multiplying the number of minds that are coming together, because clearly one times one is really only one. But if you look at it in a little bit of a different light, and multiply the contents of the minds instead of the minds themselves, you will start to understand how it works a little better. (Hopefully the quantified contents of the minds are not in the single digits. Sorry for my math nerdiness…)

For whatever reason, two minds together are more powerful than the same two minds apart. Here are some of my theories for why this is (which is really not new information).

Beside the whole point of the freaky third head popping out of thin are, some of the benefits of a mastermind group include the accountability and support that come with it. One of the simplest reasons that people get more done in mastermind groups is because they have somebody else that knows their goals and desires, and not only encourages them to achieve them, but holds them accountable when they don’t.

Just those tangible benefits alone should be enough to make you want to go out and create a mastermind group this second, but the real power of a mastermind comes from what Napoleon Hill was talking about in his book. I wish I could explain it better than I already have, but I’m afraid I don’t even quite understand exactly how or why it works 100%.

This, however, I do understand – there is no faster way to accomplish your goals than by creating an alliance with somebody that has harmonious goals and that can also benefit from teaming up with you.

If you want to learn more about masterminds, I recommend getting your hands on a copy of Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich, or better yet, find yourself a mastermind group to be a part of. There’s no better way to learn than through experience itself. You can even create your own group, just be careful about who you choose to be a part of it.

No More Excuses… :)

WOW!

Just got back from Vegas and the No Excuses Summit put on by my friends Ray and Ferny of SEONetworker.com and what a weekend it was!

If you missed it I am sorry for you… because it will be impossible for me or anybody else to share all the incredible information and training that the speakers shared with us – but don’t worry! I will do my best to pass on some of the things that I found most useful because helping each other succeed is what it’s all about, right?

I wouldn’t want to keep you in the dark even if you had the opportunity to be there and passed it up… (Although if you did and decided not to attend you probably ought to get a slap on the wrist or something… SHAME ON YOU!) ;)

Ultimately, the training and content that was shared was incredible, but even if I could do a mind dump for you, you still would have missed out on the chance to network with all the biggest names in the industry! You really can’t put a price tag on that… So next time (if there even is a next time) NO EXCUSES!

For now I will just share some of the things that Mike Dillard shared… he very well may have been one of my favorite parts of the whole event.

He didn’t have a presentation prepared because in his words, we were all at different skill levels and he had no idea what to say, so he just came prepared to answer our questions. For over an hour, he was in the hot-seat as some of the attendee’s fired their questions at him (along with a lot of gratitude). It was really amazing to hear his responses – completely unrehearsed and 100% genuine.

That is unequivocally one of the reasons that Mike has done so well in the network marketing industry, because he is good at helping people solve their problems. He doesn’t pitch a business or chase after people to follow him. He just finds out what people want and does everything he can to help them get it. The law of attraction at its finest.

That’s really all that it comes down to in this industry. It doesn’t matter what business you are in. You will not be successful just because you have the best comp plan or the most amazing product. Your success will really only depend on the skill sets that you have developed and how you use them to benefit other people.

If you are feeling a little bit like Napoleon Dynamite because you don’t have any good skills (bow skills, nunchuck skills, etc…) then take a little closer look at yourself. You probably do have some pretty amazing skills that you may have overlooked – just like Napoleon’s mad dancing skills, or his incredible artistic ablilities… :)

If you still don’t think that you have any good “skills” (and even if you do have some) then get off your butt and start working on some. If you spend a little time every day on educating and improving yourself, it won’t be long before you know more than most other people because, let’s face it, the average person won’t get off their butt and turn off the automatic intelligence reducer (i.e. television).

Even if you feel like you will look ridiculous (like Napoleon undoubtedly does in this video), give whatever you do 100%. If you do anything half hearted, people will notice. Believe it or not, people actually like it when you put yourself out there at the risk of looking silly. Otherwise you blend in with the rest of the noise out there in the marketplace. Differentiate yourself by being as authentic as possible. Tell people like it is. They will like it.

Mike’s recommendation if you are a beginner would be to start with copy writing – the art of salesmanship on paper. This will go a long way to help you communicate effectively with your audience, something that you absolutely must learn to do to succeed in this industry.

Where ever you start, just remember that slow and steady wins the race. If people are laughing at you because you are taking the time to do it right, who gives a crap. There really is no shortcut to anyplace worth going, and you will find that out if you just keep putting one foot in front of the other. If you’re consistent, you’ll soon be amazed at how far you’ve come.
